Site History
I think I started building websites when I was about 11. My best friend was into it and she was the one that introduced me to website building. She taught me the basic HTML stuff -- how to make a link, change the font, etc... I first started a site on MSN, actually, when they had more of a personal thing available (instead of communities).
I soon moved on to
Expage.com, which I think was a great place to start out. You didn't need to know any HTML -- they had basic templates available where you could control almost everything -- but you could still use (basic) HTML if you wanted. That worked out well for me for awhile. I played around, sometimes using pre-made layouts, and sometimes just using backgrounds and images. Soon I made my own layout and created my own site, which I first called "Undeniable" (from Avalon's album "Oxygen"). This was in September of 2001, and it turned out to be the beginning of this site.
Expage soon became very limiting to me, so I moved onto
Geocities.com in August of 2002. It allowed me to everything as far as HTML went, and (at least for my computer) there were no ads! (Don't you envy me? No ads on Geocities... that's why I still use it sometimes.) Anyway, it was around this time I changed the name to Peculiar Treasure. It was also around this time that I discovered Adobe Photoshop and started to make my own graphics. (Ironic, though, how my dad is a graphic designer, but it's also very helpful!) Excited about this discovery, I continued making new layouts which got better with time and practise. I also continually taught myself HTML.
During Spring 2003, I started to get a couple offers from people wanting to host me. (This was while I had my
10th layout up. And I'll never forget when Robin Jones Gunn's son Ross signed my guestbook complimenting my site, saying I had a good eye for colour. How cool was
that?!) I was definitely flattered, and decided it was time to find a real host. I found Jessica's site,
Touch-of-Grace.org, and I'd found a host! Summer 2003 I moved in. I had put up a few layouts and had stayed a few months when I couldn't sign in anymore. So I soon found a new host at
Quiet-Storm.org, where I am today! I love it... and I love making web sites :) Hopefully I'm continually getting better...
Soon I'd like to buy my own domain (like maybe peculiar-treasure.com?) so I can have more room, especially for my other sites and fanlistings. Eventually I'd like to become a web site and graphic designer, so this site has been a really good place for me to build my skills. I hope you enjoy your stay. :)
